Yes, It is mandatory to file the RNI return. It is not optional in nature.
Every newspaper publisher is required to file the RNI return.
Registration of a newspaper involves 2 steps:
- a) Verification of title
- b) Registration of title
The entire process of registration must be completed within 2 years from the date of verification of title.
No. Transfer of ownership is done only for registered newspapers.
Yes. The first issue (i.e. volume 1, issue 1) must be brought out within:
- i) 42 days of authentication of declaration in the case of newspaper to be published once a week or oftener
- ii) 90 days in the case of any other newspaper.
A new declaration must be filed before the DM and thereafter the first issue must be published.
In India, you cannot start a magazine legally unless you have registered the magazine with India's newspaper and magazine council or the registrar.
